Murphy Pendleton has been incarcerated for several years, having had his sentence extended once already. Due to his history at Ryall State Prison, he is being transferred to nearby Wayside Maximum Security Penitentiary-but a freak accident cuts the journey short. Waking up in a forest next to the wrecked bus, Murphy has a clear shot at freedom. He makes his way into the sleepy town of Silent Hill where mysterious locals welcome him into a slowly developing personal hell.

Silent Hill Downpour is the latest Silent Hill game offering the familiar Survival Horror gameplay delivered in the most defined visual quality to date. The game also expands on the exploration theme of the franchise both design-wise and through psychological torture, ambient story, horrific enemies and self-evaluative questions of despair.

Features
-
All new and updated Silent Hill experience that visually stands on its own with the current competition. Utilizing Unreal 3 technology, the game brings the town of Silent Hill, its characters, the creatures and the alternate hell world into vivid and spectacular display.
-
Free-roaming and deep exploration that will take players into all-new 'Side Quests' unlocking areas within the game, special items and bonus content.
-
An ever-changing game world including day and night 'Normal' world and 'Otherworld' world, all manifested and sourced from character actions throughout the game.
-
First-time ever 3D technology will bring Silent Hill a step closer to the player with three-dimensional immersion.
-
Renowned story and music talent attached to the game including:
Silent Hill comic writer, Tom Waltz
-
Original music directed and composed by renowned composer, Dan Licht, of the Showtime series, Dexter.
-
Theme song performed by hard-rock multiplatinum group, Korn.

I am really excited for this, as I am excited for any new Silent Hill

Silent Hill: Downpour is an upcoming survival horror video game. The eighth installment in the Silent Hill series, the game's tentative title was Silent Hill 8. It was developed by Vatra Games and will be published by Konami Digital Entertainment for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It will be released in fall 2011.
Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. is quoted saying: "In honoring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, we're working hard to build a next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve... This Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror."

@ Ouji - They are incorperating the entire Silent hill mythology so Im sure there will be lots of cross game/ movie references.
There is a definite Alan Wake likeness to it but that isnt a bad thing as Alan Wake was a great Horror / Thriller!
Im also keen to see how Dan Licht's music composition (Dexter) will add to the atmosphere in downpour as he has some incredibly moving pieces in the Dexter TV series.

Looks like that extra couple months developement has really help polish the game up - Most of the previewers are doing a complete turnaround to their initial preview saying that its becoming highly playable, impressive survival horror. Well done Konami for making sure this game was up to scratch before release!
Some new pics from the PS Blog:

One of the Articles found HERE (PS Blog) with another found HERE (IGN Xbox) and Im sure more positive previews are around as Konami seems to be doing its rounds with the latest build of Silent Hill: Downpour.
What is interesting about the PSblog preview is the fact that this game is not as linear as its previous incarnations and that the more exploration you do in the game the more silent hill lore you uncover that’s not always directly canon to the main story.
I was also previously unaware that the Weather system was dynamic and that when there's a downpour is best find cover or to hide as the rain brings monsters too - Very cool!

Can't wait for this game to hit the shelves later this month since this will be a SH game with its own story so you won't have to play the other games to know what's going on.
