This is one game I'm super keen on the collectors as well, nevermind a game that I'm very much excited for.
Now we just need a damn release date Blizzard. Hopefully they'll also prove all the nay-sayers wrong that predict it to be awful on the basis that Blizzard North, the original Diablo dream team, was dissolved.

Was expecting this:
Executive vice president of game design Rob Pardo notes that the wealth of improvements and features Diablo 3 brings to Battle.net necessitate the always-online requirement. Specific additions that he refers to include:
A persistent friends list.
Cross-game chat via the RealID system.
Persistent characters that are stored server-side (no more having to play online once every 90 days, nor item duplication cheats).
Persistent party system.
Player-versus-player and public game matchmaking.
Dynamic drop-in/out for co-op
Larger item stash that gets shared among all of your characters (at the moment, up to 10)
The auction house, outlined here.
The Achievement system and detailed stat-tracking, both of which feed into the final point:
The Banner system, a visual way to display your prowess in the game. Banners start out like emblems, where you can choose from an array of symbols, patterns, and overall shape/design. Then, you can tweak its appearance through Achievements and other accomplishments. Examples Pardo cites include whether the character is in Hardcore mode, how many Achievements have been earned, how many PVP victories, and so forth. Additionally, the Banners also have gameplay features; in-game, rather than use Town Portal, you can click on a player's Banner to instantly teleport over to said player.
While Pardo recognizes that people sometimes want or need to play offline (such as internet outages, or playing on a laptop during an airplane flight), he notes that the increased security, plus benefits like the above, outweigh those other concerns. "I want to play Diablo 3 on my laptop in a plane, but, well, there are other games to play for times like that."
So no go.
Don't have the need or funds to install ADSL at home (3G is not stable enough for gaming) just so I can play Diablo 3.
Meh

That's the point. You Must be online even if you don't want to be. The game will be geared towards online so I'm guessing all your drops are tracked online.
It's like Heroes of Might and magic 6, where you can play offline but 70% of items and skills are not accessable.
And you probably can't save offline either

Everyone on this forum should have some sort of internet connection at home, it's so cheap these days anyway, not like you need something blistering fast just something that allows you to connect and that's it. R200 a month isn't a lot, stop buying an overabundance of crap and most people can afford the cheapest of adsl lines.
I'm always connected online when I'm playing games, even with Dark Souls that automatically utilizes online play, hardly ever realize it till I get invaded and crap and the amount of cap it uses is hardly noticeable. It's just how games are going and with PC games every single one of them should implement something like this.

I honestly like that blizz games are all going online only. It helps with securty from both sides. Blizz can root out piracy easier as their player base will need to have purchased the game to play it else they can ban your account. And for players it will their data is always safe online and players can't hack the game as easily.
I rememeber back in the old Bnet days of Diablo 2 and getting completely floored by a player with a hacked weapon. One took pity on my noobiness and gave me a hacked item too. It was fun at first but it really killed the experience so I deleted the item. Even after that the game felt cheapened for a long time after that especially when I thought about all those players with their hacked OP items breezing through the game.
And like DP said its not too expensive to get ADSL in your home now.
If my net goes down I will probably be cursing that D3 is online only, but for now i don't see anything wrong with it
