The actual issue was it took 30+ minutes to delete (instead of normal seconds). The corruption occurred when people reset their PS3s. It happened to me, it seemed to have freezed but instead of resetting I googled
I left it for 45 minutes, no corruption.
As someone said on a forum at the time, a game that managed to annoy an hour after playing it.
Tried to delete my Resistance 3 install. Froze my PS3, had to do a hard reset. File got corrupted. I thought it froze again. But I noticed that little circle was turning in the corner. So left it, after almost an hour it deleted.
@Fredsmin - Yeah, when I deleted it, it left a block of corrupted data that would freeze my system whenever I tried to remove it. It took a few hours of trying different things suggested online but I eventually got it sorted. This was a long time ago though so I can't remember exactly how I did it, but it involved rebuilding the system database from safe boot, as well as the other options on there, excluding formatting the HDD. After that I was able to remove the corrupted block of data.
